Multi-talented entrepreneur and community leader Beauty Dorothy Hughes has added another accolade to her growing list of achievements after being honoured at the Zimbabwe Women in Real Estate and Construction Awards held last Saturday.

The award, presented during a colourful ceremony organised by the Zimbabwe Real Estate & Construction Summit, recognised Hughes for her contributions to housing development, property marketing, project management and community development.

In a nomination profile published on May 20, 2026, summit organisers highlighted Hughes’ more than two decades of experience in the property sector. She began her career in real estate in 2000 and has since built an extensive track record in housing development, marketing and project administration.

Hughes previously served as Regional Controller for KMP International housing projects before establishing Zim-Properties Realty Developers in 2012. Through these roles, she has been involved in several housing and infrastructure initiatives, including Hillview, Weirmouth Glen and the Mushamukadzi Housing Scheme.

Organisers also commended her commitment to environmental sustainability, citing recycling initiatives and environmental management projects integrated into her business operations. Her participation in regional and national exhibitions, business expos, women’s empowerment forums and trade showcases was also recognised.

Beyond the property sector, Hughes has distinguished herself as a community leader. She serves as Treasurer of CAPS United Football Club and is the founder of the Mutare Specialty Lions Club. Her academic credentials include a Graduate Diploma in Marketing and various certifications in business management.

Speaking after receiving the award, Hughes said the recognition would inspire her to continue contributing to sustainable housing and community development.

“Having been in real estate for a long time, I am excited to be recognised as an innovative entrepreneur in housing schemes and community development. This award inspires me to continue doing my best,” she said.

Hughes said successful property development goes beyond constructing buildings.

“This achievement is about building more than physical structures. We are building trust, generational wealth and sustainable communities,” she said.

She outlined a vision that combines technological innovation with local development priorities, noting that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence can help design housing solutions tailored to community needs while improving efficiency in planning and execution.

Hughes also advocated environmentally responsible construction practices, including the use of recycled materials. Her long-term vision includes promoting energy-efficient housing, recycling plastics and tyres for infrastructure projects, creating employment opportunities and supporting local economic growth.

Apart from her achievements in real estate, Hughes is widely known for her work in fabric and tyre recycling art, motor vehicle servicing, carbon-cleansing technologies, marketing and environmental sustainability initiatives. Her multidisciplinary approach blends entrepreneurship, creativity and environmental stewardship.

Industry observers say her recognition comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s construction and real estate sectors are increasingly prioritising transparency, accountability, sustainability and ethical leadership. The award is seen as reflecting growing demand for professionals who demonstrate integrity, innovation and professionalism in property development and construction management.
