AFRO-DANCE artiste Emmanuel Majaya, popularly known as Bovas Ntwana Yese Madonkini, has launched his latest single, Whawha, a party song that blends catchy beats with playful yet thought-provoking lyrics about loyalty, enjoyment and freedom.
Unlike conventional friendship anthems centred on people, Whawha takes a bold twist: the “friend” in the song is not a person, but beer.
In an interview, Bovas said the title was symbolic.
“Whawha is a friend of mine — beer is my friend, not people,” he said. “Sometimes people disappoint you, but when you sit down with your drink, you relax and feel free.”
Described by the artiste as a party song, the single was released on February 28.
Bovas says the song captures real-life experiences and the joy he finds in simple pleasures.
“In the song, I say our friendship will never fade.
Whawha and I know each other well, and we get along,” he said.

“I do not know those who hate you. We must stop those who talk badly about you because you are my friend."
According to the musician, the track carries a deeper message beneath its upbeat tempo.
“Beer does not pretend.
It does not gossip. It does not betray you,” he said. “It makes you enjoy and be free.
"That’s the message — sometimes your peace is found in small things.”
Bovas added that Afro-dance music allows him to tell relatable township stories in a fun and energetic way.
He said Whawha was meant to get people on their feet while leaving them smiling at its clever wordplay.
