IN a sector dominated by men, Martinagema Moyo, the 54-year-old founder and managing director of Chirandu Holdings, has broken new ground by winning the Imbokodo Women’s Award for Best Woman Farmer.

The recognition celebrates her outstanding contribution to agriculture in Zimbabwe, where she has built an enterprise that goes beyond farming to empower women, drive sustainability and transform communities.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Moyo said she was overwhelmed with gratitude and joy.

“This award is not just a recognition of my hard work, but also a testament to the resilience and determination of women everywhere who strive to make a difference,” she said.

“As a widow and a female farmer, I am humbled to be an inspiration to others.”

Moyo expressed appreciation to the sponsors of the award.

“Your support and recognition empower women like me to continue pursuing our passions and making a positive impact in our communities.

“Thank you for believing in us and investing in our potential,” she said.

Moyo credited her mentors, family and community for their unwavering support throughout her farming journey.

“It is not a walk in the park being a female farmer in a male-dominated field.

“Consistency, resilience and the drive to push yourself to greater heights make you stronger.

With continued support from the government and stakeholders through access to the right tools, mentors and financiers, we can achieve even more.”

Through Chirandu Holdings, Moyo has pioneered a farm-to-table model that delivers fresh produce directly to consumers while adopting environmentally-friendly farming practices.

The business also offers event hosting services in a unique farm-based setting, creating an additional stream of growth and innovation.

Her leadership and vision have attracted key partnerships, including with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation, which provided funding that helped Chirandu Holdings to expand its operations and broaden market reach.

Reflecting on her journey, Moyo said: “Through Chirandu Holdings, I am not just cultivating crops, but cultivating change driving a more inclusive and sustainable future for agriculture in Zimbabwe and beyond.”
