FORMER Chitungwiza mayor and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Chitungwiza’s ward 7, Lovemore Maiko, has expressed concern over a sudden change of electoral boundaries, describing it as meant to confuse the electorate.
Maiko said the boundary changes made by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission were meant to confuse voters, with less than 10 days before the polls.
“There is a lot of confusion with regards to electoral boundaries, especially at ward level. Residents are still in the dark and they don’t know which wards they belong to, with some even saying they don’t know their constituencies,” he said.
The former mayor said ward 7 was the most affected by the delimitation exercise.
“Considering our performance in the 2018 election and by-election, Zanu PF is doing anything to wrest this ward from us, chief being to cause confusion among the electorate,” Maiko said.
“We are doing door-to-door campaigns engaging the citizens and that’s where we are finding out all these anomalies. Some people in wards 10 and 8 said they were moved to ward 7 by Zanu PF.”
Maiko, however, said despite all the alleged shenanigans by the ruling party, CCC would romp to victory.
“We have a challenge for the MP position because of the issue of double candidacy, but we have been engaging citizens about the issue and people now know their candidate is Brighton Mazhindu,” the former mayor said.

“Despite all this, I am optimistic the citizens will win this for everyone. We are facing a lot of hurdles in this campaign, from violence, defacing of posters, intimidation to vote-buying, but we are resolute that we will win again.”
