Hwange . . . . . . . . . (3) 3
Shabanie Mine . . . (0) 1
The brilliance of Fortune Ncube kept Hwange’s hopes of reaching the top four of the Premier League alive as they beat Shabanie Mine at the Colliery Stadium on Sunday.
Ntokozo Tshuma sneaked past Shabanie’s defence and headed home a cross from Ncube to give the coal miners the lead after 10 minutes.
Ncube proved his brilliance again as he set up Simon Njeleza through a low freekick to give Hwange their second in the 20th.
Rodwell Chinyengetere knocked in a deft header past a bewildered Roy Mazingi after pouncing onto an excellent cross from Ncube in the 30th, to complete a good first half.
Shabanie tried to save face in the second half after Smart Muchabayiwa raised their fans’ hopes by heading home Michael Mageja’s corner, 17 minutes before the end of the game.
Hwange coach Tenant Chilumba was pleased with his team’s performance.
“We might be out of the title race but we are playing for third or fourth position, we intend on putting pressure on Highlanders by winning the remaining games,” said Chilumba.
