Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants Bulawayo City finally halted a three-match losing streak with an important win away to Hwange at the Colliery Stadium yesterday. A 16th minute goal from Sipho Ndlovu was enough to help Bulawayo City end their poor run, while stretching Hwange’s poor home record.

Bulawayo City could have doubled their lead a minute before half time, but after dribbling through a cluster of defenders, Mkhokheli Dube failed to beat the home side goalkeeper Future Sibanda.
In the second half, Hwange were the better side, with Gift Mbweti and Farai Vimisai combining well, but they could not breach the visitors’ defence.
Twenty minutes before time, Hwange thought they had got the equaliser through Munyaradzi Mungadze, but their celebrations were cut short with the referee whistling for an infringement on the goalkeeper prior to the ball hitting the back of the net.
Chipangano coach Mebelo Njekwa, who was still trying to come to terms with the result, struggled to explain the circumstances that led to another defeat.
“I don’t know what is happening. Every time we play at home, it seems there is a shadow of darkness that covers us,” he said.

“We have played fairly well in our away matches, but every time we come back home, it’s a different story.”
Bulawayo City caretaker coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube applauded his charges for grinding out the important win.
“Thumbs up to the boys for putting up a good performance. It was a game of two halves. We dominated the better part of the first half, while Hwange were in charge of the second one. Right now, our main aim is to beat relegation. So we are trying to accumulate as many points as we can,” he said
