Hardrock has immediately suspended its chief executive officer Kudzanai Hove following his arrest yesterday over allegations linked to the acts of violence that rocked Hardrock Stadium during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Dynamos on Sunday in Kwekwe.
Hove was summoned by police and later arrested as the Zimbabwe Republic Police continues investigations into the skirmishes that led to the abandonment of the match.
In a statement, club spokesperson Bruce Chikuni confirmed the arrest and suspension of the CEO.
“Hardrock FC leadership has resolved to suspend Mr Hove for an indefinite period pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. We strongly condemn all acts of violence and vandalism. Such conduct is contrary to the values of the club and has no place in football.
“As Hardrock FC, we will work closely with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that everyone who played a role in causing the abandonment of the fixture is brought to book. We remain committed to cooperating fully with the investigation and to upholding the integrity of the game.
“The club extends its apologies to supporters of both teams, the wider football community and the public for the regrettable events that occurred. Further updates will be provided as the matter progresses,” Chikuni said.
More arrests are expected in the case, with police having already confirmed that four other suspects have been accounted for together with Hove.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League is awaiting reports from relevant stakeholders, including the clubs and match officials, before taking action on the matter amid indications there were inadequate security personnel to contain the disturbances at the venue.
