Hardrock keep Sheasham on their toes in Central Region

SHEASHAM FC’s Central Region title aspirations will be put to the test as they take on their most serious challengers, Hardrock FC, in a battle for supremacy, with league bragging rights and crucial points at stake.

Sheasham chairperson Reginald Chidawanyika previously dismissed Hardrock FC as “nothing but mere Division 2 champions”, but will his team’s performances on Sunday back up the bold claims when they face off in the eagerly-anticipated showdown?

Hardrock FC are set to host Sheasham FC at Baghdad Stadium in Kwekwe on Sunday afternoon.

Separated by six points going into this top-of-the table clash, Hardrock FC are hoping to reduce the deficit, and keep pressure on the Gweru-based side.

Sheasham FC sit on 63 points, while Hardrock FC, who are second-placed, have 57 points to show off.

The Gweru-based team remain the only undefeated team after 23 matches, and their meeting with Hardrock FC is a test of both character and quality of both sides.

Last time out, Sheasham won 3-1 at Bata Stadium in Gweru, but their coach Prince Matore is first to admit it’s now different as Hardrock FC are highly motivated to end their winning streak and also reduce the gap.

Said Matore: “Everything about them is quality. Quality coaches, players and everything. So it’s going to be very challenging for us.

“Our secret has been self-belief. But I will be honest, this is a tough hurdle for me and the team.”

Hardrock FC coach Calvin Maphosa is optimistic of producing a fine performance to win at home, Baghdad stadium.

“We are taking every match seriously and we want to win and see how the season ends,” he said. “It’s crucial for us to win both home and away matches.”

During mid-week fixtures played on Wednesday, Sheasham beat Blanket Mine 1-0 at home, while Hardrock thumped Matobo FC 3-0 away from home.
