Chipindura clinch double glory at Energy Park T20

The defending champions, Chipindura U13, began their campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing EC Academy by 147 runs in their opening match.

CHIPINDURA Primary School Cricket Academy defended their U13 crown and added another trophy to their cabinet after emerging U11 winners at the Energy Park All Stars T20 Tournament held recently at Prince Edward School.

The defending champions, Chipindura U13, began their campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing EC Academy by 147 runs in their opening match.

Elvis Bondera took one wicket for three runs as EC Academy were restricted to 76/8 while chasing 223/3.

Batsman Olaine James top-scored with 35 runs.

In their second game, Bondera claimed an impressive seven wickets, while James smashed 75 as Chipindura recorded a 178-run demolition of Goromonzi.

Batting first, Chipindura posted 210/3 before bowling out Goromonzi for just 32 in 10.3 overs.

James then raised the bar with a century, scoring 106 against Maiden, who were beaten by 165 runs in a 15-over match.

Chipindura piled up 215/1 before Maiden were bowled out for 50 with two balls remaining.

The final saw James score his second century of the tournament, blasting 132, while Tinevembo Manyere took 2/6 in 1.4 overs against Raging.

Chipindura posted 221/1 before Raging were dismissed for 45 in 12.4 overs.

Chipindura also swept the individual awards, with James named both Player of the Tournament and Batter of the Tournament, while Bondera was crowned Bowler of the Tournament.

Coach Tawanda Damiso Jnr expressed delight after his Under-13 side secured back-to-back championships in 2025 and 2026.

“I want to thank our sponsor Zoro of Genesis Smart Sporting Solutions for believing in us since we started this in 2022 and for providing the team with everything needed,” Damiso said.

“The trophy is back again in Mashonaland Central province, Bindura district.”

Tournament co-ordinator Phillip Kadziche hailed Chipindura’s dominance at the competition.

“Chipindura’s consistency and discipline across all age groups was outstanding,” he said.

“They’ve set the benchmark for grassroots cricket development, and the double win is a testament to the work being done in Bindura.

“Congratulations to the players, coaches and the entire Chipindura community.”

Chipindura PSCA director Damiso Snr also welcomed the success as the academy completed a clean sweep at the tournament.

The competition now enters its final phase, with the senior tournament for Under-15 to Under-19 teams starting today.

U-11: Best batsman Batanai Zengeni; best bowler Keith Chizamu; and MVP Tamuka Chibwe

U-13: Best batsman Sean Makaniso; best bowler Elvis Bondera; and MVP Olaine James
