Mutwira PPC Matopos 33-Miler champ

The race returned this year after four years out with Mutwira beating the 2019 record of Black Rhinos’ Andrew Chimbikidzai who crossed the line in 3:12:37.

NEDBANK’S Prosper Mutwira yesterday won this year’s men’s PPC Matopo 33-Miler Ultra Marathon in a time of 3:06:06 to pick up a cash prize of US$2 000 in Bulawayo yesterday.

The race returned this year after four years out with Mutwira beating the 2019 record of Black Rhinos’ Andrew Chimbikidzai who crossed the line in 3:12:37.

However, Tommy Lazarus’ 1984 record of three hours and 18 seconds is yet to be broken.

Jonathan Chinyoka came second in 3:07:05 while army side’s Trust Hove was third in 3:09:19

Nedbank’s Chiedza Chokore continues to rule the roost in the women’s sector after hitting the ribbon in 3:45:46 beating her 2019 record of 3:57:17 and was also rewarded with US$2 000.

Behind her was Rudo Mhonderwa of Cadence in 3:49:49 while Neviah Ganzo of Mutare Runners was on the third spot in 3:51:05.

Moses Taraciro of Black Rhinos was the winner in the men’s category of the 21km half marathon in 1:04:02 followed by Mr Pace’s Wayne Kabondo in 1:0417 and another army side race runner Tendai Zimuto who crossed the line in 1:04:22.

In the ladies’ section it was Stellah Jongwe of Racers who took the honours in 1:26:58 with Thandiwe Ndlovu of the same club coming second in 1:34:55 and Molleen Muza of Zvishavane coming third in 1:36:48.
