Mapeza pins hope on defence

FC Platinum coach has admitted that his team is in for a tough contest when they take on Cranborne Bullets in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match tomorrow, but is banking on a solid defence.

The defending champions started the season on a high note with a come from behind win over Simba Bhora at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

They clawed back from behind courtesy of a Juan Mutudza brace in the second half. Ronald Chitiyo scored Simba Bhora's first half goal.

For Mapeza, how they came back from behind to collect their first set of maximum points is evident of their never-say-die attitude.

Their match tomorrow will be their first league clash at home and they want to continue setting high standards.

And Mapeza is targeting a clean sheet at home.

“We have prepared for this match. We are ready for the first home match. I know that we will face stiff competition,” he said while addressing a Press conference yesterday.

“Craneborne Bullets will come here aiming for maximum points and we are not underestimating them. We recognize their strengths. But for us maintaining the winning run is a priority. We are also looking forward to maintaining a clean sheet because this is our first home match.

“Our last game showed us the challenge that we may face, but what is important is to keep a positive mind. Everyone is out to win. At the end of the day, we have to keep our targets in mind until the end of the season.”

And again, FC Platinum seem to be the team to beat in the current campaign. The four-time champions added a few players to their squad.

They are hoping to continue with their winning run, in a match Jarrison Selemani will likely meet his former paymasters since parting ways last year.

Cranborne Bullets are hoping to make a recovery following their 1-0 defeat to Black Rhinos on Monday.
