South African top-flight club Sekhukune United are aiming to acquire the services of Caps United gunslinger William Manondo, it has emerged.

Manondo has emerged as one of the most wanted players in the southern African Region, with a number of Zambian clubs also looking to pounce on the 31-year-old.

Giants, Zanaco and Zesco United have registered interest in his services after he was voted as the Castle Lager Soccer Star first runner-up and also took the Golden Boot Award.

The former Harare City forward had a memorable season in which he scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists, albeit Caps United's struggles on and off the field.

And it is Sekhukune United's interest in him, that could probably bring a new twist to the race for his signature.

A South African-based source told Newsday Sport that Sekhukune United are set to bid for the prolific forward who still has one year remaining on his contract.

"Sekhukune want him but what is not clear is his contract situation with his current team. They should be able to bid," the source said.

Last season, Manondo's contribution all but helped Caps United survive the dreaded relegation chop.

He deservedly earned a place on the Soccer Stars of the Year calendar as the first runner to FC Platinum forward Walter Musona. Dynamos defender Frank Makarati was the second runner up.
