The Zimbabwe men’s cricket team is set to return to action when they host Ireland in a white-ball series in Harare next month.

Consisting of three T20Is and three One Day Internationals (ODIs) the matches will be played from January 12-23.

Zimbabwe’s last international cricket match was a 71-run defeat to subcontinent giants India in their last Super-12 match of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia at the beginning of last month.

The country was making a first appearance at an ICC World Cup event for the first time in six years and duly impressed by reaching the Super Six stage where they claimed a famous one run victory over Pakistan.

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announced the visit by Ireland through a Press statement yesterday.

“The New Year will start with Zimbabwe welcoming the Ireland senior men’s team to Harare for a white-ball series scheduled for January. Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed the tour will consist of three One-Day International (ODI) matches and as many Twenty20 International (T20I) games,” read the statement.

“The series will start off with the T20I matches pencilled in for 12, 14 and 15 January, followed by the ODI fixtures set for 18, 20 and 23 January. All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club.

“This will be Zimbabwe’s first international outing since they impressed at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia where they reached the Super 12 stage,” ZC said.

Zimbabwe last played Ireland during the recent T20 World Cup, winning their opening game of the tournament against the European side by five wickets at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

However, Ireland dominated the last white-ball series between the two teams late last year claiming a 3–2 victory at home while the three-match ODI series ended in a one-all stale.

The other ODI match was washed out by rain.

Initially Zimbabwe was reportedly scheduled to host Afghanistan soon after the T20 World Cup but the tour was cancelled.
