Edgar Tekere, one of the founder members of Zimbabwe African National Union (Zanu) in 1964 has died.
Edgar Zivanai Tekere (born 1 April 1937 – died 7 June 2011) was a Zimbabwean politician.
He was 74
Tekere died this afternoon (Tuesday) at Murambi Garden Clinic in Mutare after a long battle with cancer.
Zanu PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa, who is related to Tekere confirmed the death, describing him as a person who had the country at heart.
He was the secretary general of Zanu who organised the party during the Lancaster House talks and served in government before his popularity as a potential rival to Robert Mugabe caused their estrangement.
