“When one starts something, you have a time frame for yourself, but this (career) just shot straight to the sky and I am stuck here thinking: ‘wow, how did this happen’,” Takura told NewsDay.

The Zino Irema hitmaker has been enjoying a wave of success since going solo early this year, with his achievements of the last six months staggering.

“Looking at history and most people that I know, it takes a long time, but for me, it took six months, where I have bagged four awards and now have 10 nominations. Hip-hop is not an easy genre to have all that kind of success,” he said.

Shonhai said his rollercoaster ride to success was like a scene off a fiction movie.

Currently sitting on a number of awards and with six nominations in the Hip Hop awards slated for next month, the 28-year-old takes pride in his versatility.

“Personally, it has been going good. Transitioning from anything is not something I have not done before because I have sung and produced, so it is those little things that people do not know,” he said.

“I see myself as an artiste. I do not want to limit myself to being a singer or rapper, I did hip-hop because I wanted to express myself and that is the best genre to do that.”

Most projects he has worked on seem to be turning into gold and to him, that is the miraculous part because it is unexpected.
