The Employers’ Association of the Tourism and Safari Operators (Easto) has launched a National Employment Council (NEC) to grade employees in the hospitality industry in line with their job titles.
Easto was launched last week in Shangani for employees in the hospitality industry to have their own NEC to negotiate salaries and conditions of service.
The organisation held a meeting over the long weekend in Shangani where they recommended the establishment of the NEC and a pension fund.
“We agreed to continue with Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Tourism Industry with representation from the majority of stakeholders nationwide and the process started in March,” reads a communiqué released after the meeting. A principal agreement and the code of conduct have been finalised and will be presented to the appropriate NEC in a week.”
Easto founding member Klodious Hove and NEC representative John Mujaka officially handed over the management of the affairs to a national committee which was elected.
“It is Easto’s vision to be in a position to amicably attend to all the operational problems, which range from licensing, labour disputes and fees, which affect its members,” the communiqué added.
They said it was imperative that all stakeholders within the industry register with Easto so that they would speak as one entity on issues affecting their industry.
Clement Mukwasi of Shearwater Adventures in Victoria Falls is the organisation’s president and will be deputised by Craig Broomberg of Mazunga Safaris/ Bubi Valley Conservancies in Beitbridge.
