A Japanese business delegation is in the country to scout for investment opportunities.
The 15-member delegation arrived in the country on Wednesday. It comprises of company representatives in the railway, energy, water and sanitation, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, ICT and financial sectorsAFDP Japan Centre for Africa executive director Dev Babbar said Zimbabwe was the future hub of economic development.
“We feel we can provide assistance and partnership to Zimbabwe,” Babbar said. “We want to see how we can bring investment to Zimbabwe. How we can connect Japan to invest in Zimbabwe.”
Japan Bank for International co-operation executive officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Toshiyuki Kosugi said Japan was ready to provide financial assistance to Zimbabwe through partnerships with Japanese companies.
Rohto Phamaceuical regional representative Shunsuke Bito said Japan produced herbal medicine and to grow herbs in Zimbabwe would be a great opportunity for both countries.
“We hope to contribute to your country. We think Zimbabwe has great potential for business,” Bito said.
Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) chief executive officer Clifford Sileya said the country was exploring possibilities of funding and Investment.
“We are exploring possibilities of funding, possibilities of joint ventures and any other opportunities to boost Zimbabwe,” he said. Sileya said the investors from Japan were from different sectors and Zimbabwe could benefit from their experiences in railways, water and sanitation, pharmaceuticals and many other facets of businesses.
