SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso, whose right ankle is currently in plaster after spraining during a show in Guruve last week, yesterday received a bass guitar from the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZCRS) in Harare.

Macheso, who was visibly in pain, said he was honoured to receive the guitar from ZRCS and would make use of it during charity shows to support his humanitarian ambassadorial position.
“The ankle is still very painful. I sprained it during the show in Guruve and although I will not be able to jump and dance until I heal, performances will continue as normal,” Macheso said.
He said he was, however, grateful for the bass guitar which he said was the best of all the guitars he has used since he began his career.
“It has the strongest strings of all the guitars I have used and of all my guitars, it can also be used using battery power, thus cannot be affected by power cuts,” he added.
Speaking at the handover event, ZRCS public relations officer Takemore Mazurusa said they had found it most relevant to purchase three guitars, one for Macheso and the other two for Tryson Chimbetu, who is also the ZRCS Youth Ambassador.
So far, ZRCS has handed over the first guitar to Macheso and will hand over the other two during a separate event.

“This move is a bid to improve the musicians’ sound quality whenever they host shows, especially for their humanitarian responsibilities,” Mazurusa said.
