DJ Storm stole the show at the much-anticipated launch of the Private Lounge at Holly’s Hotel on Friday.
Report by Silence Charumbira
The show, which was headlined by DJs Cndo and Ntombi from the Durban’s Finest camp was performed in front of a sizeable “hard to please” Harare crowd that barely moved to the music.
First on stage was DJ Ohms before DJ Ntombi came on stage.
Her mixes were indeed good, but as is the norm, the rapport or rather lack of it measures a poor set.
After DJ Ntombi then came the game changer DJ Storm who appeared on top of his game.
It was probably the case that DJ Storm is well known to the local show goers and he capitalised on it and won.
When the much awaited wheel spinner went behind the decks, yes it was announced that she had taken over, but the crowd did not budge.

Even owner of the venue Biggie Chinoperekwei conceded the show did not go as to his expectations.
“They failed to impress to be honest,” he said.
“The parking area has never been as packed as was the case on Friday, but it was shocking that people actually went into the Holly’s Hotel Bar area which was unusually full.”
Chinoperekwei said although the tourists’ performances lacked the wow effect it was not solely their fault as Harare revellers are not used to DJs.
“DJs and Kwaito are not Harare concepts. On the night I was actually shocked to be confronted by two different people who had driven all the way from Bulawayo,” said the proprietor.
“I think we have to rethink the idea of engaging DJs and restrategise. We cannot take anything away from good artistes like DJs Cndo and Ntombi all because we do not understand their music.
“Harare audiences are all about live music and dancers on stage, so maybe we need to improvise.”
The Private Lounge that Chinoperekwei said should be fully open in the next few weeks is a different concept that is coming to Harare’s shores. It is furnished with different sofas and comfortable for loungers, fitted with a full bar and stage and a ramp that is surrounded by chairs.
The concept is ideal for private functions like birthday and bachelor parties.
Its major challenge will be its location given that stereotypes about “the downtown” have always affected Holly’s Hotel.
