Chuma, a former Chronicle chief reporter, was a popular journalist with a knack for human rights stories.
He worked for Masvingo Provincial Star and later moved on to Umthunywa, Sunday News and Chronicle, before he moved to South Africa, where he became the managing editor of the South African-based publication Zim Star.
Morrison Chuma, Emmanuel’s brother, said his deceased sibling left the country in 2007 for South Africa, where he worked to date.
“He was a focused hard worker and a very determined person. It is so disturbing knowing he is gone,” he said.
“He was ill for almost a year now. Unfortunately, he could not take it any longer.”
The family planned to lay Chuma to rest at West Park Cemetery in Bulawayo today, but was still waiting for his wife, who is expected in the country.
