Young economist releases new book on Zim’s development

Life & Style

Agricultural economics scholar Knowledge Chatseka has announced the release of his debut book, Balanced National Perspectives: A Homegrown Approach to Agricultural and Inclusive Economic Transformation in Zimbabwe, a publication that seeks to contribute fresh ideas to Zimbabwe’s ongoing development conversation.

The book explores practical approaches to sustainable development, agricultural transformation and inclusive economic growth, drawing from Zimbabwe’s unique realities and aspirations.

At its core is the Knowledge Chatseka Model, a framework that promotes locally driven solutions and emphasises the importance of citizen participation, innovation and long-term planning in national development.

Inspired by the philosophy Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo (a nation is built by its own people), the publication argues that lasting progress can best be achieved when development strategies are rooted in local knowledge and supported by communities, policymakers, businesses and academic institutions working together.

Speaking on the release of the book, Chatseka said the publication was born out of a desire to contribute meaningful ideas towards Zimbabwe’s future and to encourage greater participation by young people in national development discussions.

“The book highlights the critical role of agriculture as a driver of economic growth, employment creation and poverty reduction. It also stresses the importance of investing in education, innovation, human capital development and social inclusion as key pillars of sustainable progress,” he stated.

A significant focus of the publication is the role of young people and women in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.

Rather than viewing them solely as beneficiaries of development programmes, the book positions them as active contributors whose ideas, leadership and participation are essential for achieving national goals.

The release comes at a time when Zimbabwe continues to pursue Vision 2030 and implement policies aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving livelihoods.

Through research-based insights and practical recommendations, Balanced National Perspectives aims to stimulate dialogue and encourage collaborative approaches to development.

Chatseka, whose work focuses on agricultural development, economic policy and social transformation, hopes the book will serve as a useful resource for students, policymakers, development practitioners and anyone interested in Zimbabwe’s development journey.

Speaking on the release of the book, Chatseka said the publication was born out of a desire to contribute meaningful ideas towards Zimbabwe’s future and to encourage greater participation by young people in national development discussions.

Reflecting on the journey to publication, Chatseka acknowledged the challenges involved in bringing the project to completion.

He also thanked his publisher, TisuMazwi, for guiding him through what he described as a very difficult process since the end of last year.

He said the support, professional guidance and commitment shown throughout the publishing journey played a significant role in transforming the manuscript into a finished publication.

“Publishing a book is never an easy process, especially for a first-time author. I am grateful to TisuMazwi for walking this journey with me and helping bring this vision to life,” he said.

The publication marks an important milestone for the young scholar and reflects a growing trend of young Zimbabweans contributing innovative ideas and thought leadership to national conversations.

By sharing his vision through this book, Knowledge Chatseka joins a new generation of thinkers committed to helping shape a prosperous and inclusive future for Zimbabwe.
