BEITBRIDGE, Jun. 5 (NewsDay Live) — Police say they have disrupted a suspected cross-border drug trafficking ring after intercepting nearly two tonnes of dagga worth more than US$210,000 at Beitbridge Border Post and arresting a truck driver allegedly linked to the operation.
The police on Thursday arrested Thapson Ndou, 64, after he was allegedly caught driving a haulage truck carrying 1.9 tonnes of dagga valued at US$210,800.
Police said the truck, registration number AGK 0535, has been seized as investigations expand to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be part of the smuggling network.
“The haulage truck registration number AGK 0535 has since been seized by the police as investigations to identify Ndou’s accomplices widen,” the ZRP said in a statement.
The force said the arrest highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates operating through Zimbabwe’s border posts.
“The ZRP reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against drug peddling and trafficking,” police said.
