HARARE, Jun. 4 (NewsDay Live) - FOUR Harare men have been sentenced to 12 years in prison over a 2022 armed robbery case which occurred at a business owner's residential place in Eastlea.
In a statement National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the quartet committed the offence on the 13th of August 2022.
The men have been identified as Darlington Chirenga (45), Josphat Muchenje (58), Stephen Matanhire (55) and David Nyakauru (49).
“The quartet was armed with a pistol, a 15-pound hammer and iron bars when they gained entry using duplicate keys supplied by gardener and accomplice Raymond Motikari.
“While inside, they manhandled the maid and forcemarched her into a bedroom where they stole a safe containing USD100000, ZAR300000, a pistol with 53 rounds of ammunition, house title deeds, a Samsung S8, an iPhone X and an iPhone XR,” reads the statement.
They fled the scene driving a Nissan NV200 with the loot.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the offenders and the recovery of a broken safe, the getaway vehicle and cash amounting to USD14720 and ZAR66000.
One year of the sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour and a further four years was suspended on condition of restitution. They will now each serve an effective seven year sentence.
