400 attend Kariba hearings

Our reporter Obert Siamilandu reports that about 400 people attended a Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 engagement meeting in Makande, Kariba Rural, where most participants voiced support, citing its potential to empower marginalized communities.

The meeting drew attendees from Makande, Kudzanayi, Kariba Urban and Musambakaruma—areas considered Zanu PF strongholds—and offered a platform for locals to air their views.

Zanu PF youth leader Itai Chakazamba told the gathering: “The Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 is a game changer for our communities. It is about giving power back to the people, especially the marginalized. We urge everyone to support it for the sake of our development.”

However, claims that many attendees were transported from other parts of the province to bolster support raised questions about the authenticity of the turnout.

One villager, who requested anonymity, said: “We were told to come and show support, but honestly, not many people here understand what this bill is about. We are just following what the party says.”

Zanu PF busses ED2030 Bill supporters to Manicaland hearings

Kenneth Nyangani reports that public hearings in Manicaland began in Makoni District, led by Nyanga South MP Supa Mandiwanzira.

Some alleged Zanu PF supporters were reportedly ferried in by bus.

Most speakers at the gathering expressed support for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, saying its provisions should be adopted.

A key moment came when former Makoni Central MP David Tekeshe challenged proposals to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure.

He said war veterans fought for the principle of “one person, one vote.”

“If MPs choose the President, we are promoting corruption because if they are given money, millions of people will suffer,” he said.

Tekeshe also claimed that former colonial leader Ian Smith was better than Mnangagwa, drawing boos and jeers from Zanu PF supporters.

15:03: All Microphones switched off, and rowdy youths have taken over proceedings at City Sports Centre.
