HARARE, Feb. 25 (NewsDay Live) – The government has suspended the export of all raw minerals and lithium concentrates with immediate effect, a move authorities say is aimed at enhancing accountability and maximising value retention within the country.
The decision was announced this morning by Mines Minister, Polite Kambamura.
Kambamura said the suspension applies to all raw minerals and lithium concentrates “until further notice” and includes minerals currently in transit.
“All stakeholders are advised that ZIMRA, MMCZ and other regulatory authorities will strictly enforce these requirements,” Kambamura said in a statement.
“Any mineral exports not supported by valid export permits and complete documentation shall be denied clearance. Continued use of an expired or already exhausted export permit is a serious offence that warrants withdrawal of the export permit and mining title. Government reiterates that these measures are being implemented in the national interest to enhance mineral accountability, promote beneficiation and maximise value retention within Zimbabwe.”
Under the new directive, only mining companies holding valid mining titles and approved beneficiation plants will be authorised to export minerals.
Agents and third-party traders will not be permitted to export minerals on behalf of mining title holders.
Government reiterated that the measures are being implemented to enhance mineral accountability, promote beneficiation and maximise value retention within Zimbabwe.

“In addition to other supporting documents for export permit applications, applicants must also attach the following: a recommendation letter from the relevant Provincial Mining Office clearly stating beneficiation capacity and compliance status with Ministry regulations and statutory requirements,” Kambamura said.
“The applicant should declare the mineral composition of the export consignment.”
