HARARE, Jan. 3 (NewsDay Live) — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of suspected serial killer Anymore Zvitsva (32) in Guruve this afternoon, bringing to an end a nearly two-week manhunt that gripped the nation.
Zvitsva, who is facing allegations of murder, attempted murder, and rape, was apprehended by a joint team of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe National Army after he was discovered hiding in a garden.
During the operation, Zvitsa was shot in the left leg and was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, commending the role played by the public in assisting law enforcement authorities during the extensive search.
“The police applaud the Guruve community and all Zimbabweans for the support rendered during the comprehensive manhunt for the suspect,” Nyathi said. in a statement.
“More details on the criminal charges and court appearance will be availed in due course.”
The arrest follows a series of gruesome crimes allegedly committed at a farm in Guruve, where five members of a single family were murdered, sparking widespread fear and prompting police to launch a manhunt. They later roped in the army in the hunt for the suspect.
Authorities had earlier offered a substantial reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture.
