THE fraud trial of a bodyguard of PHD Ministries leader Walter Magaya failed to commence yesterday after the complainant musician Tinashe Gonzara popularly known as Ti-Gonz, did not appear in court.
Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka responded by issuing a warrant of arrest for Ti-Gonz, whose testimony is crucial to the case.
Tapiwa Felix Chikondo, a security aide at PHD Ministries, is accused of smuggling a vehicle and selling it.
The State alleges that between July and August last year, Chikondo smuggled a Toyota Mark X vehicle into the country and did not pay import duty to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, estimated at US$3 389,55.
According to court proceedings, Chikondo devised a scheme to disguise the vehicle’s illicit origins.
He allegedly used the registration particulars of a legally registered car, owned by Dumisani Dube, to apply for a set of number plates from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad in Harare.
A clearing agent Andrew Musoni was then engaged to facilitate the processing of the documents at the Central Vehicle Registry.
After successfully obtaining the new plates (AGS 2550), Musoni handed them to Chikondo, who paid him US$50 for the service.
