Outspoken politician Temba Mliswa’s house at his rural homestead in Shurugwi was allegedly set on fire by unknown assailants early Wednesday morning, leading to the loss of property worth over US$120 000, NewsDayLive has gathered.
Mliswa confirmed the incident on X and claimed that it was connected to his anti-corruption crusade as tension continues to build up in Zanu PF over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s succession.
According to a police source who spoke to this publication, Mliswa, who is also a headman of Mliswa village in Shurugwi –where the incident occurred, was not home at the time of the incident.
“I can confirm the incident of fire that burnt one bedroom hut (used by Mliswa) at the homestead of Village Head Themba Mliswa on 02 October 25 around 0000hrs as reported by the resident maid.
“The destroyed goods and infrastructure is estimated at US$120 000 to US$200 000,” the source said.
The source also revealed that one of the three homestead occupants present at the time when the inferno broke out had heard a vehicle passing by the road and witnessed the fire at an advanced stage some 30 minutes later.
The incident comes a week after Mliswa accused vice president Constantino Chiwenga of sabotaging President Emmerson Mnangagwa by spearheading a politically motivated response to corruption.
Mliswa said he was not scared by the incident.
