Row over cigarette nearly turns fatal

The court was told that on January 5, at Stanhope Business Centre, Dumane asked for a cigarette from the complainant,Tormency Nkomazana.

BULAWAYO, Feb 18 (NewsDayLive) - A Nyamandlovu villager has appeared in court charged with attempted muder after he allegedly stabbed his friend in a dispute over a cigarette.

Promise Dumane (21) pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza.

He was remanded in custody to March 6 for trial.

The court was told that on January 5, at Stanhope Business Centre, Dumane asked for a cigarette from the complainant,Tormency Nkomazana.

The two engaged in a nasty verbal exchange after Nkomazana said he was not eager to share his cigarette with the accused. 

In a fit of rage,  Dumane allegedly stabbed Nkomazana on the left side of the chest with a knife and fled from the scene.

A police report was made,  leading to his arrest.
