Katsimberis disowns controversial house plan

Katsimberis, who is still demanding the State to furnish him with further particulars, said the plan brought to court as an exhibit was not the one he used to build the controversial showroom before it was demolished.

HARARE property developer George Katsimberis, accused of fraudulently using an unapproved building plan to construct a showroom in Borrowdale, yesterday disowned a copy of the plan used by the State to charge him.

Katsimberis, who is still demanding the State to furnish him with further particulars, said the plan brought to court as an exhibit was not the one he used to build the controversial showroom before it was demolished.

Early this week, magistrate Vongai Guwuriro warned his lawyer Tino Chinyoka against delaying the proceedings through frivolous applications.

But Chinyoka told the court that the trial could not proceed in the absence of the missing documents as they would give more weight to his defence.  He pleaded with the clerk of court to search for the documents.

Deputy Prosecutor-General Michael Reza said Chinyoka’s request was not a priority for Guwuriro but for magistrate Letwin Rwodzi who initially presided over the case.

Guwuriro expressed concern that the trial had dragged on for three years, hence the need to conclude it as soon as possible.

She then remanded the matter to Tuesday next week.
