The suspect, Ricard Ernest Joseph (38), appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi and was granted US$100 bail.

A KWEKWE-BASED bogus car dealer allegedly duped a Harare man of US$36 000 in a botched vehicle import deal.

The suspect, Ricard Ernest Joseph (38), appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi and was granted US$100 bail.

He was remanded to September 19 pending finalisation of investigations.

The complainant is Rana Ghulam Ali.

Allegations are that sometime in November 2019, Ali approached Joseph and engaged him to import a Toyota Fortuner from South Africa.

The accused asked the complainant to pay US$33 000.

A few weeks later, Joseph demanded a top-up of US$3 000 and Ali paid. Joseph promised to deliver the vehicle in a few weeks.

It is alleged that after receiving a total of US$36 000, Joseph became evasive.

A report was filed with the police, leading to his arrest.
