POLITICAL parties have endorsed youth charter on peace in electoral processes as the country heads towards the August 2023 polls.

Representatives from different political parties including the Coalition for Change (CCC) and Zanu PF endorsed the pledge at an event organised by 4H Zimbabwe, a peace building organisation.

Speaking at the event, 4 H Zimbabwe director, John Muchenje, said: “After an extensive crafting process and engagements with political parties legal team, leaders, members, parliamentary youth caucus, ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation, Zimbabwe Election Commission (Zec) and churches, the organization has successfully come up with a final document "Zimbabwe Youth Charter on Peace in the electoral processes" and the "Youth Peace Pledge" for consideration, adoption and endorsement by the political parties, their affiliates and other key peace stakeholders ahead of 2023 harmonised elections.

“We are pleased to be the convener and facilitator of this inaugural process.”

The charter establishes a youth peace council, a platform for various youth political leaders to interface and discuss peace building strategies in Zimbabwe.

“We urge Zimbabweans to stand united together for sustainable peace building and political tolerance ahead of 2023 harmonised elections and beyond. We need a peaceful election; we need a peaceful Zimbabwe. Development is possible in a peaceful nation,” said Muchenje.
