A MUTOKO magistrate has ordered that two government doctors examine the mental status of a man who killed his father in cold blood on December 2, and hacked off his head, thumb and private parts.

On Monday, Mutoko magistrate Elijah Sibanda ordered that Tonderai Mariwo (33) be examined for mental illness.

Mariwo is facing a murder charge.

It is the State case that on December 2, 2022, Mariwo of Kapere village in Nyakuchena, Mudzi, struck his father Oliver Mariwo once on the neck with an axe.

“The deceased fell on the ground and the accused produced a kitchen knife, which he used to cut off the deceased’s head (at) the neck, left thumb and (private parts),” prosecutor Nathan Mujuru told the court.

“After his horrendous act, Mariwo put the body parts into a bucket..

“Accused person voluntarily made indications that led to the recovery of an axe that he used to commit the offence,” Mujuru added.

Sibanda then ordered that two doctors should examine his mental status.

“The court hereby requests that the accused be inspected by two different doctors to ascertain his mental status. He is remanded in custody for two weeks until he is inspected,” Sibanda ruled.
