A 33-YEAR-OLD mentally-challenged Mutoko man, who allegedly beheaded his father before removing his private parts, appeared last Friday before Mutoko magistrate Elijah Sibanda facing a murder charge.

The accused, Tonderai Mariwo, was remanded in custody to December 16.

According to court papers, on December 2 at around 2am, the accused went to his father Oliver Mariwo’s bedroom and asked for a bucket.

As his father opened the door, the accused dragged him outside and struck him on the neck with an axe. The father fell down.

The accused then allegedly pulled a kitchen knife which he used to behead his father. He also cut off his manhood and left thumb.

It is alleged that he performed the heinous act in the full glare of his mother who tried to intervene in vain.

The accused then stashed his father’s body parts in a bucket. The deceased’s wife reported the matter to the police, who then arrested the accused.

Mariwo admitted to killing his father and led the police to where he had dumped the axe, about three metres away from the homestead.

Police also discovered the accused’s blood-stained clothes.

Nathan Majuru represented the State.
