NYIMBO zaKwatu is set to introduce a new dialogue series aimed at bringing women in the arts together. The first edition of Women’s Denderedzwa will be held on May 13 at Alliance Française in Harare, starting at 8:30am.

The initiative creates a space where women can have honest, solution-focused conversations about their experiences in the creative industry. It also aims to explore new opportunities shaping the sector.

Founder Mary Anibal said the idea was inspired by the tradition of women gathering in a circle, a space representing shared wisdom, connection and equality.

“It is a sacred and intentional space that has, across generations, held stories, wisdom and collective strength,” she said.

The first event will centre on two themes: The Power of Being: Stories, Struggles and Success and Women Harnessing Artificial Intelligence in the Creative Sector.

A diverse group of speakers will lead the discussions. Financial literacy expert Theodora Madzinga Chinembiri, women’s safety advocate Charlene Chiriseri, broadcaster Becky K and creative director Tariro NeGitare Chaniwa will share insights on women’s lived experiences in the industry.

Another panel, featuring legal expert Vivian Matsa, musician Anibal, visual artist Nothando Chiwanga and creative economy practitioner Anesu Chikumba, will focus on how women can use artificial intelligence in their work.

The discussions will be moderated by creative consultant and voice artist Rutendo Denise Mutsamwira.

Anibal said the new platform reflected a shift in Nyimbo zaKwatu’s work, moving from simply showcasing art to creating conversations that shape the future of the creative industries.

“At its heart, Women’s Denderedzwa recognises storytelling as a powerful tool for transformation. It is a space where lived experiences are valued as knowledge, where challenges are met with collective wisdom and where new ways of leading, creating and living can be imagined,” she said.

Although the focus is on women, the event is open to anyone interested in conversations about creativity and technology.

Attendance is free, but registration is required in advance as space is limited.

Nyimbo zaKwatu has also invited partners and sponsors to support the initiative, with opportunities including brand placement and segment sponsorship.

The platform, known for promoting African storytelling through music and visual work, says this new step will help to shape a more inclusive and forward-looking creative sector.
