Zimbabwean rising artiste Romana Rose is carving out his space in the music industry with the release of his emotionally-charged EP, MOI ET TOI — a five-track project that seamlessly blends Afrobeat, Afropop and R&B into a heartfelt exploration of love and human connection.
Hailing from Mbare in Harare, Romana Rose’s story is deeply woven into his sound. Growing up in a modest but culturally rich township environment, while balancing life as a tracking officer, has shaped his grounded personality and raw lyrical honesty. His music captures the pulse of everyday Zimbabwean life, wrapped in melodies that stretch beyond borders.
Describing himself simply as an artiste, Romana Rose stands at the intersection of African rhythm and global sound. His style leans heavily on emotional storytelling — something he says flows naturally from his lived experiences. Although he began writing music at 17, the journey towards MOI ET TOI truly took shape between 2023 and 2024, when his vision for a cohesive body of work crystallised.
The title MOI ET TOI symbolises an intimate dialogue between two lovers navigating the complexities of relationships. For Romana Rose, the project reflects the duality of love: joy and pain, hope and heartbreak, connection and closure. The EP dives into these themes with sincerity, drawing directly from his personal highs and lows.
The project features five core tracks: Nhema, Rangarira (featuring 3ill), Kana Usipo, Ndinzwewo, and Mhamha (featuring Young Nova). Among them, Pandaikuda stands out as his personal favourite and the emotional centrepiece of the EP. He describes the song as the one that fully captures the soul of the project, born from a deeply personal space.
The artiste says the fusion of Afrobeat, Afropop and R&B was deliberate — a bridge between homegrown Zimbabwean sounds and contemporary global vibes. The result is music that resonates with young people and lovers everywhere while remaining rooted in local identity.
Creating the EP was an emotional journey.
He admits that vulnerability proved the most challenging aspect, particularly when revisiting heartbreak and personal loss. Throughout the recording process, he experienced a blend of hope, empowerment and emotional heaviness — emotions that echo across the project.
