He will play two more test matches before retiring.

“The Little Master” has a record of the most runs made in test cricket. He has played 198 test matches making a total of 15 837 runs. Also, as a bowler he has also taken 45 wickets in test cricket.

In 2012, Tendulkar had announced his retirement from one-day cricket after scoring a record-breaking 49 centuries in the 50-over format.

“I have decided to retire from the one-day format of the game,” Tendulkar had said in a statement.

“I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup winning Indian team (in 2011),” the 39-year-old had added.

“I am eternally grateful to all my well-wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years.”

The Mumbai batsman is the world’s top run-getter in one-day cricket, with 18 426 runs from 463 matches at an average of 44.83 with 49 centuries.

Tendulkar had also retired from T-20 cricket in May this year. The great legend had announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying it was the “right time” to stop playing the Twenty20 tournament.

“This is my last IPL,” said Tendulkar. “It has been a fantastic season. I think this is the right time to stop playing this format. I am 40. This is the best point to say thank you very much to all the supporters and well-wishers.”

The announcement came after Tendulkar’s team Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings in the final to win their first IPL title.
