Top seed Takanyi Garanganga and Benjamin Lock fired warning shots on the opening day of the NetOne Zimbabwe Open Tennis Championships with straight sets wins over their respective opponents at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
United States-based tennis ace, Garanganga — who is the first seed in the men’s tournament — hardly broke any sweat as he breezed past young Takudzwa Muswere 6-1, 6-0 in the second round. Garanganga will meet Johannes Artzinger in the third round today.
Artzinger laboured past James Matewere 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the second round. Lock, who is the defending men’s champion, also had a bye in the first round before making light work of Nigel Muvuti 6-1, 6-2 in the second round to book a date with Taku Tsapayi.
