DeMbare’s struggles continue

Nomore Chinyerere scored from range in the 31st minute to put the hosts in front but DeMbare wasted a handful of chances in a dominant first half before second half substitute Milton 'Pogba' Chimedza equalised for Herentals to snatch a point.

WASTEFUL Dynamos continued with their struggles after they were held by Herentals in a league match at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

Dynamos were in control of the first half, but somehow let Herentals fight their way back into the game until Chimedza met a Tino Benza cross at the back post to head past goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni in the 68th minute.

Both sides had a goal disallowed for offside. First, Liyeto Dreamer was flagged off after he had rounded Makoni to slot into an empty net, having been put through by Benza in the first half.

Donald Dzvinyai thought he had won the game late on for Dynamos when he headed home a Donald Mudadi’s freekick in the 87th minute.

His celebration was, however, cut short by a far side assistant referee's flag, touching off protests from Dynamos officials and fans alike.

The referee further irked Dynamos when he added just two minutes of injury time, causing a chaotic end to the game. The match officials were pelted with missiles by irate home fans who felt their side had been robbed of victory.

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe admitted his side was not clinical in front of goal, but also felt his side had been given a raw deal by the match officials.

“It’s always difficult for us because some of these decisions are letting us down. Admittedly, a referee is a human being and can make mistakes, but it's [officiating] getting worse day after day. We are losing points because of that. Even the goal that Herentals scored, I thought there was an infringement on Emmanuel Jalai. He was pushed by the scorer but the officials allowed the goal to stand. We scored a clear goal and it was disallowed. I don't think this officiating is healthy, something needs to be done before it's too late. There are complaints from coaches after almost every match, but nothing is being done,” Mangombe said.

The point leaves Dynamos in 10th place with 12 points, although they are likely to be awarded three points from their abandoned match against Chegutu Pirates.

Herentals coach Celistino Benza praised his side which stretched their unbeaten run to five games following the draw.

The Students, who had a slow start to the season, are now on 13th position with 11 points. They have played a game less.

“I’m happy and also disappointed because from the first whistle we gave Dynamos a lot of space to play. That was not good for us and I'm not happy. But having conceded first and coming back, I'm happy because we managed to get a point. It's important for us to get such a result, especially playing away.”
