DURBAN — AmaZulu captain Tapuwa Kapini says Usuthu are ready to take on Manchester United today.
The Red Devils will play Usuthu at Moses Mabhida Stadium and then Ajax Cape Town on Saturday as part of their preseason tour of South Africa.
Although missing big names such as Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs, the former European and World Club champions still have some of their best players on show, including Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Javier Hernandez, Antonio Valencia and new signings Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell.
However, goalkeeper Kapini said Usuthu were not fazed by the prospect of playing one of the world’s most celebrated clubs.
“This kind of opportunity comes once in a lifetime for any African soccer player, and the mere thought of rubbing shoulders with such great names is on it’s own great motivation to shine,” Kapini added.
“As someone hopeful of playing in that game, I feel I have a role to play and make myself, the club and our supporters proud on the day.
“Just like them, we hope to use the game to gauge our strength for the coming season and a win will boost our confidence going forward.”
The Zimbabwean first choice keeper does not rule out the possibility of Usuthu achieving an “impossible” win over the traditional English giants – record championship winners with 19 League titles.
