Wolverhampton Wanderers will head into the 2026/27 season as one of the bookmakers’ favourites to win promotion to the English Premier League.
Given that the club will generate one of the highest revenues in the Championship, anything less than a top-two finish would be unacceptable.
With the Premier League transfer window now open, Wolves have the opportunity to bring in more money by capitalising on some of their saleable assets.
They include Zimbabwe midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Ligue 1 club Paris FC.
Successful loan boosts Wolves’ hopes of selling Munetsi
Munetsi bagged four goals and two assists in 16 appearances to help Paris FC climb away from the relegation zone and secure a mid-table finish.
His impressive performances ensured that Wolves can stick to the €15 million asking price, which places him out of the French club’s reach.

A source close to Munetsi said that talks between the two clubs had cooled in recent weeks and a return to the French capital was unlikely.
“The situation in Paris has gone cold,” the source said. “There was genuine interest from both sides, but the clubs could not reach an agreement on the financial terms.
“Marshall is still a Wolves player, but everyone understands that returning there is not the preferred option at this stage of his career. He wants to be playing at the highest level possible.”
“There is plenty of speculation but nothing concrete at the moment. The focus is on finding the right project where he can continue playing regularly and competing at a high level. Whether that is in France, England or another league remains to be seen.”
Munetsi was been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, who are managed by former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira.
However, it seems unlikely that Forest will sanction a move for a player who recently celebrated his 30th birthday,
Player sales can improve Wolves’ promotion hopes
Wolves have already moved decisively during the summer transfer window, signing veterans Kieran Trippier and Raul Jiminez as free agents.
However, the squad needs a major overhaul if Wolves are to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Acquiring a decent fee for Munetsi needs to be one of several outgoing moves Wolves sanction over the next few weeks.
Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa could both be sold, opening the door for the club to revamp their goalkeeping department.
Ladislav Krejci, Santiago Bueno, Yerson Mosquera and Jackson Tchatchoua are also likely to leave, adding more funds to Wolves’ war chest.
Hugo Bueno has been linked with several Premier League clubs, while Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Joao Gomes.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Hee-chan Hwang and Tolu Arokodare are other players who could be heading out of Molineux this summer.
New manager Cesar Peixoto demonstrated his squad-building ability during his time with Gil Vicente, and could be a shrewd appointment by the club.
He will need to hit the ground running, with Wolves’ fans rightly disgruntled with the direction the club has been heading in recent years.
As Leicester City discovered to their cost last season, the Championship can be an unforgiving place for badly-run clubs.
Munetsi’s acquisition was one of series of mistakes made by the club in the transfer market over the past few years.
While dropping into the second tier is far from ideal, Wolves now have the opportunity to rectify those errors.
