ZIMBABWE’S women volleyball team will chase a second straight win this morning as they look to build early momentum in the tournament and keep their LA28 Olympic dream alive.
The ladies opened their campaign with authority on Wednesday, brushing aside Namibia 3-1 at Sunrise Sports Club. The victory set the tone and left the team high on confidence heading into today’s 11am clash against Malawi.
A win over Malawi would put Zimbabwe in a strong position to reach the final and move closer to booking a spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Namibia women will look to bounce back when they face Zambia women at 1pm in the day’s second women’s fixture.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s men’s team endured a tougher start, going down 3-1 to neighbours Zambia in their opening match last night at Sunrise.
Head coach Itsanang Abubasutu said the defeat was a mental setback but not fatal. He backed the side to recover in today’s 3pm derby against Malawi, with Namibia playing Zambia at 5pm.
“It was a tough match. We are down, but not out. Mentally we lost it, but we are going to regain our mental strength and move on from there,” Abubasutu told NewsDay Sport after the match.
The men’s tournament remains wide open, and Abubasutu insists Zimbabwe still have what it takes to reach the final.
“These are derbies. You can win today and lose tomorrow. It’s a big challenge, but we are going to win this tournament,” he added.
