Chitembwe Has Not Resigned – Agent

Sport

Speculation surrounding the future of Triangle United Football Club head coach Lloyd Chitembwe was emphatically shut down on Monday after his representatives issued a strongly worded statement categorically denying reports that the experienced coach had resigned or intended to vacate his position.

The denial comes amid intense speculation that, following a 3-0 defeat to Dynamos on Sunday, Lloyd Chitembwe reportedly stepped down as coach of Triangle United.

Triangle have endured a difficult run of results in recent weeks, with pressure mounting after the heavy defeat to Dynamos left the club in 16th place and inside the relegation zone.

However, sources close to the Lowveld side say the club’s executive is reluctant to accept the resignation and instead wants to give the experienced coach another opportunity to rebuild the squad.

It is believed the Triangle hierarchy still has confidence in Chitembwe and feels he has not yet had enough time to assemble a team of his own, having largely worked with a squad inherited from previous structures at the club.

The executive is reportedly considering backing the former CAPS United coach in the transfer market and allowing him to recruit players suited to his philosophy ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Ballers Football Agency, which represents Chitembwe, issued the statement for immediate release today, describing media reports and social media commentary linking the coach with an exit from Triangle FC as categorically inaccurate — language that leaves absolutely no room for doubt.

"We confirm, on the record, that Mr. Chitembwe has not resigned, has not stepped down, and has not communicated to the Club or to this Agency any intention to vacate his position," the statement read, in what amounts to a direct denial of the rumours that had gathered significant momentum across Zimbabwean football circles in recent days.

The statement acknowledged that the fixture against Dynamos had been disappointing, but was equally firm in its assertion that a poor result alone was not sufficient grounds for the speculation that followed.

"While the result of the recent fixture was understandably disappointing to all parties associated with the Club, Coach Chitembwe remains fully committed to his contractual responsibilities, the strategic objectives of Triangle Football Club, and the long-term development of the playing squad and technical structures," Ballers Football Agency stated.

The agency did not shy away from addressing the wider culture of speculation that tends to engulf football coaches during difficult periods, directing a pointed message at the media, supporters, and the broader football community to exercise greater responsibility in how they consume and spread unverified information.

"It is an established reality of professional football that periods of competitive pressure invite public speculation. We respectfully urge representatives of the media, the supporter base, and the wider football community to rely solely on verified and officially issued communication when reporting on matters relating to our client."

Crucially, the statement confirmed that Chitembwe is not only staying put but is actively working with the Triangle FC leadership in preparation for upcoming fixtures, a detail that further dismantles any narrative of a coach who has mentally or professionally checked out of his responsibilities.

Ballers Football Agency also moved to establish clear lines of communication for any future updates, warning that only official channels should be treated as credible sources.

"Any official update regarding the position of our client will be communicated exclusively through the recognised official channels of Triangle Football Club or Ballers Football Agency."

The statement closed with an expression of gratitude to the club's supporters, partners, and stakeholders for their continued professionalism and support, a measured and diplomatic conclusion to what was a robustly worded defence of their client's position.

The resignation rumours appear to have been driven largely by frustration following a disappointing result, a pattern all too familiar in Zimbabwean football where coaching positions are rarely far from scrutiny when results turn.

For Chitembwe, a coach with a distinguished career in Zimbabwean football that includes a celebrated spell at Caps United, the statement draws a firm line under the speculation and refocuses attention on the training ground at Triangle United ahead of the next assignment.
