FORMER national team captain Willard Katsande has stepped down from his role as head coach of Division 1 side Rangers FC, citing unpaid wages and poor working conditions in a strongly worded resignation letter dated April 30, 2026.
In the letter addressed to club management, Katsande announced his immediate resignation, stating that despite his commitment and repeated efforts to resolve issues, the situation had become untenable.
“Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position as head coach of Rangers FC effective immediately,” he wrote
Katsande highlighted that he had not received any salary or agreed sign-on fee since the start of his contract, calling it a breach of agreement.
He also raised concerns about unsuitable accommodation provided by the club, noting that the matter had been reported, but remained unresolved.
The Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town and Sekhukhune United former defensive link said these challenges had made it impossible for him to perform his duties to the professional standard expected by players and supporters.
“Despite my commitment to the role and repeated efforts to address concerns, I have decided to resign due to the treatment and working conditions I have experienced, which are not in line with professional standards” Katsande said.
The former Zimbabwe national team captain requested that all outstanding payments be settled in accordance with their agreement.

Despite the circumstances surrounding his departure, Katsande expressed goodwill toward the players and technical staff, wishing them success for the remainder of the season.
His resignation adds to growing concerns about administrative and financial stability following the resignation of one of the directors and main sponsor, Thomas Chidzomba, last month.
