Bosso must bring its best players: Scott

SCOTTLAND president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya has declared his ambition to sweep all the trophies on offer this season as he looks to establish total dominance over domestic football.

The defending Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions already have silverware in their cabinet this year, having secured the season-opening Castle Lager Challenge Cup with a 5-nil drubbing of Dynamos.

The Mabvuku-based side now has an immediate opportunity to add a second trophy to their collection when they face off against Highlanders in the Independence Cup in Maphisa tomorrow.

The encounter forms a centrepiece of the country’s 46th Independence Day celebrations, which are being hosted in Matabeleland South province this year.

Sakupwanya, who has invested heavily in the ambitious outfit, is not satisfied with last season’s historic achievement, where Scottland won the league title in their debut top-flight campaign.

Speaking on the club’s in-house football show, the businessman and politician did not mince his words regarding his expectations for the current campaign.

“We are bringing home the Independence trophy,” he declared.

“We are going for every trophy on offer.”

This match marks the second time in a matter of weeks that Scottland will face Bosso.

Their recent league clash at Rufaro Stadium ended in a stalemate, a result Sakupwanya clearly intends to improve upon.

While teams competing in the Independence Trophy have historically utilised second-string players, partly because the match is often played on unhomologated rural pitches, Sakupwanya has promised that his side will not be holding back.

He issued a direct challenge to the Bulawayo giants to also bring their big guns to the fight.

“Last time, we drew against Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium. For this game in Maphisa, I urge you [Highlanders] to bring your best players. Don’t use your fringe players because we are bringing our first team players. We want to win all the trophies on offer this year,” Sakupwanya declared.

Beyond the league title defence, the Castle Challenge Cup and the Independence Trophy, the roadmap for Scottland’s total dominance includes also winning the Chibuku Super Cup and the inaugural Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.

In addition, Scottland will also play in the Caf Champions League this season.

Currently, the Norman Mapeza-led side sits in fifth position on the Premier Soccer League log standings.

They remain within striking distance of the summit, trailing leaders Caps United by just three points after seven rounds of matches.

If Sakupwanya’s bold declarations are anything to go by, the champions are just getting started.
