HARARE Eagles this week hosted a three-day provincial festival at Prince Edward School to strengthen the junior pipeline feeding into the country’s premier club competition, the National Premier League (NPL).
About 120 boys from Harare’s high-density and northern zones took part in the Under-15 matches played across the school’s four ovals. The games used the declaration format, with squads rotated to ensure every bowler delivered at least three overs.
Eagles general manager Moses Chitare said the festival was designed to reinforce the province’s development pathway.
“This festival continues from the U13 festival we held at Hartmann House in December and forms part of our development pathway aimed at exposing as many junior cricketers as possible to competitive opportunities as they play representing their district, which are also our cricket development centres,” he told NewsDay Sport.
According to Chitare, the district model follows a clear progression. District trials lead to provincial Under-13 and Under-15 festivals, which then feed into the Eagles age-group pool before players progress to national junior teams.
“For now, the calculation is simple: run the matches, keep the schoolboy engaged, and let Harare’s junior column feed the NPL column coming up this season,” he said.
Chitare also expressed gratitude to sponsors CABS and Energy Park for supporting the development initiative.
