THE National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (NDAZ) has announced the dates for this year’s National Open (Easter) Darts Tournament.
The tournament, set to be held at Chinhoyi High School in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province, will run from April 2 to 6.
On the last day of the tournament, NDAZ is expected to hold its annual general meeting and elections to choose a new executive for the posts of president, vice president, secretary-general, treasurer, public relations officer, organising secretary and two committee members.
The current executive comprises Meynard Moyo (president), Jane Mushininga (vice-president), Stephen Mwarindira (secretary-general), Cecil Mbofana (treasurer), a Mr Marime (public relations officer), a Mr Lethu (organising secretary) and two committee members, a Ms Mafume and a Mr Brown.
Moyo has been in the executive since 2008, while vice-president Jane Mushininga was elected in 2022.
Mwarindira and treasurer Cecil Mbofana have also been part of the executive since 2008, with the rest of the current executive having joined in subsequent years, NewsDay Sport understands.
The NDAZ constitution provides that executive members “shall hold office for two years and shall be eligible for re-election”.
However, given that the current executive is understood to have already served two consecutive two-year terms, they would have completed a full cycle of office, making them ineligible to stand again in line with the constitution’s term provisions.
Currently, there are no confirmed candidates who have publicly declared their intention to contest in the upcoming elections, with Mwarindira saying: “Affiliates have their candidates.”
In a statement released recently, Mwarindira said: “Please be advised that the National Open (Easter) Darts Tournament will be held from the April 3 to 6 at Chinhoyi High School in Chinhoyi, Mash West Province.
“Therefore, provinces should hold their selection trials early and submit team lists, full names of players and trial sheets to the national secretary-general by March 14, 2026 without fail.”
He said each province is supposed to provide one men, one ladies, one under 18/25 junior ladies and one under 18/25 junior men’s teams, adding that provinces should also bring their provincial banners for procession on official opening and closing ceremonies.
“The tournament charges shall be as follows: provincial annual affiliation fees (US$100); player capitation fees (US$10), ‘make sure you register all players in your province as required by the Sport and Recreation Commission Act’; team registration fees (US$20);
“Player registration fees: a. closed events (US$2,50), b. open/social events (US$2,50); raffle prize, item of a value of US$20 (per team and to be purchased before the tournament); raffle sheet (US$0,50 per number); and fine fee (US$10).”
Participants are expected to arrive on April 2, book for accommodation, register their teams and confirm participation payments.
Time keeping will be of paramount importance, with team managers and captains highly expected to monitor their players to “adhere to our playing rules and registrations”.
The association also strongly advised against night travelling, adding that those coming from afar should travel early to avoid walkovers.
Each province is expected to bring in two men’s team, two women’s team, one junior men’s team and one junior women’s team (all under 25s).
