THE sleeping giant of Zimbabwean football, Caps United, is finally showing signs of a powerful reawakening.
After a turbulent period defined by financial instability and harrowing relegation dogfights, the Green Machine has officially signalled its intent to return to the pinnacle of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
In a statement released yesterday, the club confirmed that their 2026 preparations are already in high gear.
Following a successful induction week, the squad began field sessions on Monday, January 12.
The centrepiece of their preparation will be a high-profile preseason training camp in Malawi scheduled for mid-February.
“We’ll be heading to Malawi in mid-February for a training camp to fine-tune our skills and team chemistry. The Green Machine is back, and we’re ready to take on the season!” the club announced.
The optimism at the club is fuelled by a landmark US$4,3 million sponsorship deal with Lesotho’s Green Dollar Development Bank.
This three-year partnership, which kicks off this month, provides the financial muscle Makepekepe has lacked for years.

Club president Farai Jere has promised a well-funded 2026 campaign, focusing on improved player welfare and long-term technical stability.
The club has undergone a massive technical overhaul.
The biggest statement of intent was the appointment of Takesure Chiragwi as head coach.
Chiragwi, who led Ngezi Platinum Stars to the league title in 2023, is expected to instil a winning culture in a side that has struggled for consistency, finishing 11th, 8th, and 9th over the last few seasons.
Unlike in previous years where recruitment was frantic and late, Caps United concluded most of its business via pre-contracts before the end of 2025.
The club has secured an impressive list of talent, including Wallace Magalene, Nyasha Gurende, Kudzwai Chigwida, Richard Hachiro, Bret Amidu, Talent Chamboko, Macdonald Makuwe, Derick Murimba, Obriel Chirinda, Davison Marowa and Chawananga Kawonga.
Off the pitch, the club is thinking long-term.
With a 25-year lease of Gwanzura Stadium secured, plans are underway for major renovations to return to their Highfield spiritual home.
Additionally, the club has committed to the ambitious construction of a new stadium in Chitungwiza.
The new era will be officially unveiled to the fans on February 27, when the club reveals its 2026 kit and final squad list.
While the official target is a top-four finish, the sheer scale of investment suggests that Makepekepe is ready to challenge for the ultimate prize.
