MWOS FC eye Scottland double in fiery title race

AS the Premier Soccer League season enters its final stretch, the battle for the coveted top spot is heating up.

With all Premier Soccer League teams having played 30 games, Scottland FC and Simba Bhora are currently leading the charge.

Scottland FC sit in first place with 59 points, with Simba Bhora close behind with 56 points.

MWOS FC, one of the two debutants enjoying a dream first season in the top flight, is not to be ruled out as a title contender as they sit third with 55 points.

The team is seeking a fundamental win against Scottland FC tomorrow at 3pm at Rufaro Stadium, a result which should see them secure a crucial season double over the league leaders, having already won the reverse fixture 1-0.

MWOS FC are looking to make a late charge for the title.

Lloyd Mutasa, the MWOS head coach, is banking on the team maintaining its current four-game winning streak to navigate the remaining fixtures and improve their standing.

With only four matches left before the season ends, the competition is fierce, and every point counts.

Mutasa hopes to maintain winning ways as the season draws closer to the end.

“The boys, they know what it is and they have been preparing well like any other match, knowing that probably we are getting closer to the finishing line,” he said.

“Obviously when you are on a high you want to keep the momentum and it gives them the zeal to keep going,” Mutasa added.

For MWOS FC to win the league title, the team needs a Hail Mary which requires a continuation of their winning streak.

Mutasa highlighted how every match is important, treating the fixture against Scottland FC like any other.

“Every game that we have played, (we have) as an institution, you know we are employed to do well at every given game. So every game that we play, we play for the badge,” he said.

“I think as an institution, we have always said let’s try as much as we can to win all the matches that we play and see at the end of the day where those matches will take us to,” he added.

Mutasa is immensely grateful for MWOS supporters and he implores that they keep offering the boys unwavering support.

“I would want to urge the fans to keep coming to the stadium.

“They have been with us from the onset and we are saying together we are strong.

“We need them, they should come and cheer their team and as long as they are there, we will try as much as we can to please them because we play for them.”

With the title hanging for grabs and an uncertain winner, if tomorrow plays out similarly to the two teams’ previous encounter — where MWOS won 1-0 — the title race intensifies, making it more unpredictable.
