THE National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness (NFZBBF) officially launched the 2025 Zimbabwe Nationals Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, unveiling Hwange Colliery Company Limited Holdings (HCCL) as its main sponsor.

The championship is set for November 15 at the Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls.

HCCL’s sponsorship brings significant financial support for the athletes, with the overall senior men’s bodybuilding champion expected to pocket US$5 000.

“We believe this event will not only showcase exceptional talent, but also ignite new careers, rewrite stories, and shape the future of bodybuilding in Zimbabwe,” said Tinashe Chapendama, representing HCCL.

He added that the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to health and community development, aligning with its sports revival strategy to position Hwange as a regional sporting hub of excellence.

HCCL plans to go beyond the national championships by investing in grassroots development to enhance accessibility and talent growth.

“We are bringing bodybuilding to everyone,” Chapendama stressed.

“There’s no excuse for not participating.

“We’ve made sure that transport and accommodation are taken care of. All you need to do is train.”

The championships promise to be an exciting affair, with over 100 athletes expected to participate.

NFZBBF secretary-general Quiet Shangai confirmed that the event was open to all athletes.

“We are saying, at the end of the day, sport must be able to create a social economy benefit to the participants,” he said.

“And for the first time ever, every category, the top six athletes are going to get a prize.”

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) also welcomed the partnership.

Margaret Chari, the SRC business and marketing development manager, representing the acting director-general Peter Mudzimiri, highlighted the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing an outlet for stress.

“Bodybuilding requires discipline, which can have far-reaching social benefits,” she said.

“We believe this event will go a long way in promoting wellness and combating social problems.”

The event will feature various categories, including Senior Men Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Junior Men, Wheelchair Bodybuilding, Women’s Bikini Fitness and Women’s Wellness Fitness.

The top six competitors in every category will receive prize money, underscoring the organisers’ commitment to rewarding a broader range of athletes.
